Matofono

Matofono Matofono is an handmade instrument made out of pumpkin, this instrument is split in two equal parts with a little hole that allows you to place your lips and sing through the instrument. Both parts vibrate because the slightly pressure made with fingers, the pitch changes when the pressure changes as well. It adds to the voice a sound that reminds a mute trumpet or the resonance of a drum’s edge.

It comes from the same family of mirliton, traditional instrument from Argentina and Uruguay and as well as other wind instruments it is the result of many cultural melting, but nowadays we don’t know the exact origin.

This instrument allows you to experiment the art of singing in a simply way without any inhibition and letting free the music’s expression that resides within. It’s beautiful and simple , and also because his similarity to a soloist instrument allows you to play in other different styles and musical genres.
